#3 High School in the Nation: Application Period Now Open for Fairfax County School

The deadline for submitting online and paper applications to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) for the 2015-16 freshman class is Friday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m.

The school was recently ranked #3 in the nation.

Here’s information about applying, from Fairfax County Public Schools:

Paper applications should be turned into the designated TJ liaison counselor at the student’s middle school or to the Thomas Jefferson Admissions Office, if the student’s school does not have a liaison counselor. There are no exceptions to the application deadline. Applications postmarked on the deadline day will not be accepted.

Eighth grade students are eligible to apply to the freshman class at TJHSST if, at the time of application, they live with a parent or legal guardian who resides full time in, and meets the residency requirements of, one of the Northern Virginia school divisions that participate in TJHSST.

Those participating school divisions currently are:

• Fairfax County
• Arlington County
• Loudoun County
• Prince William County
• City of Falls Church
• City of Fairfax

The City of Alexandria has opted not to participate in the program.

Students must also be enrolled in Algebra 1 or a higher level mathematics course in grade 8 to be eligible to apply to TJHSST, according to FCPS.

Applications became available on Monday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. The online application system is accessible through the admissions website,www.TJAdmissions.org. Paper applications are available only through the Admissions Office at 571-423-3770, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The TJHSST Admissions Office is located at the Gatehouse Administration Center, 8115 Gatehouse Road, Suite 2600, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
