DALE CITY, VA — A homeowner in Dale City shot an intruder on Tuesday night, according to the Prince William County Police Department. The homeowner was uninjured, and the would-be burglar was flown to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive.

Prince William County police officers received a report of a shooting around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6. The shots were reported at a home in the 4300 block of Glendale Drive in Dale City, according to the police report.

When officers arrived on the scene, they said they found a 43-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. They then provided first aid until rescue personnel arrived, the police department said.

Officers determined that the home's owner heard a loud noise at his front door and then saw someone trying to open a living room window. The homeowner then went outside, where he encountered an unknown man on the porch, police said.

During the encounter, the homeowner fired shots and struck the unknown man, according to the police report. After shooting the intruder, the homeowner contacted emergency personnel.
