EQUALITY is it a right??

Martin Luther King Jr.s's legacy and what it means to me as a muslim youth

Martin Luther King Jr. was an influential American civil rights leader. He was a man who wanted peace and equality for all. He got it for us all after facing hatred, many peaceful protests, and speeches. He wanted everyone to be safe, and to not be worried when African Americans walk out their houses just to get groceries to live.

We have a day that we thank him on, called Martin Luther King Jr. Day! This day celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr. There is a memorial in Washington D.C. that celebrates him and his impact on this country today. May be without him, we would be having double the amount of racism that we still have today. He has a very famous quote from his speech “I Have a Dream” that almost everyone is familiar with. He said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

This subject of equality relates to Islam because according to the teachings of Islam people should not judge others by their religion or just how they look like on the outside, but who they are. We as Muslims face racism and get criticized just because we wear a scarf on our heads, speak a different language, wear different clothing from the other people, and we are not the only ones who face this. A lot of other people also still face discrimination; for example, Hispanics and African Americans sometimes face the same problem. Though in reality, we are just like any good person, we donate to charity, treat people nicely, and pray for others. So, all I am saying is, do not judge a book by its cover without reading it!
