A Fredericksburg man is awaiting extradition from New Jersey on charges that he assaulted a 19-year-old woman and aimed a rifle towards her and four others last week in a home near Montclair.

Paul Michael Hagan, 28, of the 5100 block of Pecan Drive in Fredericksburg, has been charged with five counts of brandishing, one count of assault and battery, and one count of threats by electronic means, according to the Prince William County police.

Hagan was arrested Wednesday by the New Jersey State Police on unrelated charges, and he remains in custody there, the Prince William police said Monday.

The charges that Hagan faces in Virginia stem from an assault that allegedly occurred last Tuesday night at a home in the 15500 block of Three Otters Place, off Dumfries Road (Route 234) west of Montclair.

Police responded to the scene at 9:30 p.m., and the victim, the 19-year-old woman, told them that she and Hagan, an acquaintance, were involved in an argument that had escalated. Hagan then assaulted her and, at one point, brandished a rifle towards her and four other acquaintances.

No shots were fired, and the victim was not injured, the police said. Hagan eventually left the home and posted a threatening message on the victim’s social media page, the police added.
