Mask Mandates Lifted In Prince William: Vaccine Update

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — 56 percent of adults in Prince William County have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to the Prince William Health District. A total of 44 percent of adults in the health district have are fully vaccinated.

Last week, the county began vaccinating children under the age of 16. The Pfizer coronavirus vaccine was authorized for use by the FDA, the CDC, and the Virginia Department of Health.

Currently, approximately 20 percent of residents between the ages of 10 and 19 have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. 13 percent of people in that age range are fully vaccinated, according to the VDH demographics website.

As the number of vaccinated people continues to increase and the number of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations decreases, the Virginia government has started to relax coronavirus restrictions and precautions. Last week, Gov. Northam announced that the state is speeding up the relaxation of restrictions.

All capacity and social distancing restrictions will be lifted on Friday, May 28. These restrictions were originally scheduled to last until June 15.

Northam also updated the state's mask mandate. Fully vaccinated people do not need to wear a mask in public. However, businesses can still choose to require masks.

Virginia residents can use the Vaccine Appointment Scheduling Engine to find an appointment through the health district. Alternatively, residents can use the federal vaccine finder tool to find a coronavirus vaccine from a pharmacy or other healthcare provider.
