Two New Hotels to Open Near Potomac Mills

Hotels promising "first class" accommodations are nearly complete, providing a minimum of 80 new jobs.

Two new hotels on Neabsco Mills Road are set to open within the next few months, and Neabsco District Supervisor John D. Jenkins said the opening of the Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton will bring the county tax revenues that might otherwise drive by on Interstate 95. The hotels are located next to the Northern Virginia Community College and across Dale Boulevard from Potomac Town Center.

“This is kind of a gateway to Prince William County,” Jenkins said. “This is really the first set of major hotels that you’re going to find on the I-95 Corridor as you come north from the counties south of us.”

The hotels will initially bring a minimum of 80 new jobs to the county along with a total of 256 rooms and suites, and the largest set of hotel gathering rooms in Prince William County, said Homewood Suites General Manager Charles Friend.

Friend said he expects the hotel to attract a number of government and military travelers. The 113 rooms in the Homewood Suites, with in-room amenities, will appeal to the extended-stay traveler. The 143-room Hilton Garden Inn, with a restaurant, will cater to shorter-term guests, Friend said. “We’re between Quantico and Ft. Belvoir, right off of 95. It’s a good location. I think there’ll be a lot of convenience and synergy with the new shopping and fine restaurants in the town center.”

Jenkins said he also believes the “first-class accommodations” will complement the Potomac Town Center and help serve as an economic engine to the area. “We think it’s going to be an attraction for other businesses to locate here. They’ve seen those quality developments, and I think they’ve seen that it’s a good place for people to live and work.”

Jenkins said he believes visitors to the National Museum of the Marine Corps will find the hotel attractive, as will visitors to the Americans in Wartime Museum when it is completed near the intersection of Dale Boulevard and I-95.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently directed staff to work with the Northern Virginia Community College to research the potential of a public-private partnership as a possible means of addressing community demands for an indoor sports facility at the NVCC Woodbridge campus.

Jenkins said the county needs to explore all such options. “The big opportunity for us is to grab hold of this train while it’s moving and make sure that we are successful in planning for the future of that land area around the college. We see a lot of opportunity over there.”

The opening for the Hilton Garden Inn is set for the first week in February. Homewood Suites should open by the first week in March, Friend said.
