• BREAKING: Barnett moving on from JMU, enters transfer portal (breezejmu.org) — James Madison University quarterback Alonza Barnett III is leaving Harrisonburg’s Dukes, announcing he’s entering the transfer portal after leading JMU to its first Sun Belt title and a College Football Playoff berth. His departure follows a standout season with over 2,800 passing yards and 38 total touchdowns, leaving Camden Coleman and JC Evans as the remaining scholarship quarterbacks.

• Harrisonburg Public Works Officials pick up Holiday Trash in the Friendly City (whsv.com) — Harrisonburg Public Works crews spent the day after Christmas hauling away piles of wrapping paper and extra trash across city neighborhoods, and they’re asking residents to sort carefully. Officials urge people to break down cardboard and save it for Friday cardboard collection, and remind anyone with overflow trash that they can buy stickers for extra bags from the treasurer’s office or Water Department.
