70s Age Group Leads Vaccinations In Manassas: New Data

People aged 70-79 have received the most vaccines in Manassas, according to new data from the Virginia Department of Health.

MANASSAS, VA — People in their 70s lead age groups in the city of Manassas for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at the start of March, according to new data.

The Virginia Department of Health recently added vaccine demographics data, showing vaccine doses given by age group and racial or ethnic group. But while age data is available for all vaccine doses, race and ethnicity data is missing for 467,850 people with at least one dose statewide.

Among age groups in the city of Manassas, people in their 70s account for 768 people with at least one dose. The 60s age group follows with 765 vaccinations. The 50s age group leads the way for fully vaccinated people with 286 individuals who have received both vaccine doses.

On a population basis, the 80 and up age group has the most vaccines per 100,000 people. The rate for this age group is 56,884 per 100,000 people for first doses and 23,671 per 100,000 for fully vaccinated people. The 70s age group is second with a rate of 39,405 per 100,000 people for first doses and 13,443 per 100,000 for fully vaccinated people.

People 75 and older were initially eligible in phase 1b starting Jan. 11 before eligibility expanded on Jan. 18 to cover anyone 65 and up and 16 to 64 with an underlying health condition or disability.

Here is the age group breakdown so far for first doses and second doses in Prince William County:

  • 0-9: 0 doses
  • 10-19: 38 first doses, 8 fully vaccinated
  • 20-29: 521 first doses, 261 fully vaccinated
  • 30-39: 569 first doses, 271 fully vaccinated
  • 40-49: 549 first doses, 255 fully vaccinated
  • 50-59: 652 first doses, 286 fully vaccinated
  • 60-69: 765 first doses, 256 fully vaccinated
  • 70-79: 768 first doses, 262 fully vaccinated
  • 80 and up: 471 first doses, 196 fully vaccinated

As for the race and ethnicity category, data is missing for 1,274 people with the first dose and 552 fully vaccinated people in Prince William County.

The rate of vaccination per 100,000 people is the highest for the Native American population: 17,442 first doses per 100,000 people and 4,651 fully vaccinated per 100,000 people. The rate is the lowest for Latino residents: 4,005 first doses per 100,000 and 1,584 fully vaccinated per 100,000 people.

Here is the racial and ethnic group breakdown of vaccinations:

  • Asian or Pacific Islander: 124 first doses, 62 fully vaccinated
  • Black: 284 first doses, 113 fully vaccinated
  • Latino: 627 first doses, 248 fully vaccinated
  • Native American: 15 first doses, 4 fully vaccinated
  • White: 1,863 first doses, 756 fully vaccinated
  • Other race: 146 first doses, 60 fully vaccinated
  • Not reported: 1,274 first doses, 552 fully vaccinated

Vaccinations in the city of Manassas are handled by the Prince William Health District. In February, the Prince William Health District joined Virginia's statewide vaccine registration system.

Residents across Virginia can pre-register for the vaccine online, regardless of their current eligibility.
