Student Walkout Cut Short At Patriot High
Students warned about disciplinary action; other walkouts take place at high schools across Northern Virginia to protest gun violence.

NOKESVILLE, VA — Students at Patriot High School walked out of class Wednesday as part of a nationwide protest of gun violence, but they ended the protest under pressure from administrators, the school said on its Twitter account. Similar protests broke out around the country and on Capitol Hill Wednesday.
Students at several high schools in Fairfax County and other parts of Northern Virginia staged walkouts at noon Wednesday to protest the mass shooting last week at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., that took 17 lives, InsideNova reported.
At Patriot High, a number of students walked out of the building at about noon Wednesday, but returned to class after 17 minutes, according to the school's official Twitter feed. The event "caused a disruption to the school day and was not sanctioned or condoned by school administration," the school said.
