CDC To Conduct Voluntary Coronavirus Survey Of Manassas Residents

The CDC is surveying areas of Manassas, home to large numbers of Latino residents, in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

MANASSAS, VA — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is conducting a voluntary survey, beginning Monday, of residents who live in parts of the Manassas area with high rates of positive coronavirus cases. The CDC is surveying areas that are home to large numbers of Latino residents in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Officials are working to help the Latino and Hispanic population, which data shows is disproportionately impacted by the coronavirus. Latino residents account for 45.3 percent of Virginia's cases and 35 percent of hospitalizations while representing about 10 percent of Virginia's population.

The CDC will be targeting residents who live in the 20109, 20110 and 20111 ZIP codes, the city of Manassas said Thursday in a news release. The team will go house-to-house with a 30-question survey, which will be done in Spanish.

Questions will be related to healthcare and the coronavirus, and the information collected will help the health professionals at the Prince William Health District and the CDC understand what resources are most needed by the community.

The survey is completely voluntary and no personally identifiable data will be collected. The CDC may also reach out by telephone.
