Christmas 2019: What's Open, What's Closed In Manassas

MANASSAS, VA — Christmas Day falls on a Wednesday, meaning local government and other services will take a break mid week. It's a given that many services are closed on Christmas Day, but others will be closed Christmas Eve and surrounding days as well.

We've rounded up the closings and schedule changes to know around Manassas. Schools are closed for an extended winter break, while other services will run on half-day schedules on Christmas Eve.

Manassas Government Offices: All city offices and facilities will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Thursday, Dec. 26.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Dec. 24-26.

Manassas City Schools: Students are on winter break Dec. 23-Jan 3. All offices are closed.

Manassas Police Department: See Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center visiting hours.

Post Offices: Closed Dec. 25. No mail will be delivered.

OmniRide: No OmniRide service on Dec. 25. On Dec. 24, OmniRide Express buses do not operate, but all other OmniRide buses, including OmniRide Metro Express, OmniRide Local and OmniRide East-West Express, operate on regular service.

VRE: Closed Dec. 25. Planned "S" schedule on Dec. 24.

Parking: Parking restrictions in downtown Manassas will be enforced Dec. 24-25. Although there is no charge for street parking in downtown Manassas, all public parking is in timed areas.

Prince William County Public Libraries: All locations will be closed Dec. 24-25.

Trash & Recycling: There will be no trash or recycling collection on Dec. 25. Wednesday trash will be collected on Saturday, Dec. 28.

Movie Theaters: Most area movie theaters will be open Christmas Day. We would encourage calling your theater of choice to confirm hours.

Grocery Stores: Area grocery stores hours are as follows:

  • Safeway, 12821 Braemar Village Pz, Bristow: 5 a.m.-8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Christmas Day.
  • Giant Food, 8025 Sudley Rd.: 6 a.m.-7 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Christmas Day.
  • Food Lion, 9121 Centerville Rd.: 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Christmas Day.
  • Wegmans, 8297 Stonewall Shops Sq., Gainesville: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Christmas Day.
  • Harris Teeter: All stores will close at 7 p.m. Dec. 24 and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Dec. 26.
  • ALDI: All stores will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 24 and will be closed on Christmas Day.
  • Lidl: All stores will be open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on Dec. 24 and will be closed on Christmas Day.
