UPDATE: Vaccine Clinic At Metz Middle School Switches To Pfizer

MANASSAS, VA — The Pfizer coronavirus vaccine will be administered to residents at Metz Middle School in Manassas on Tuesday, April 13 and Wednesday, April 14. The clinic is being organized by Walgreens as part of their community outreach program.

This clinic originally planned to administer the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, but changed plans due to concerns about blood clots. The clinic will not accept walk-ins, so anyone interested in attending should schedule an appointment online.

The change in vaccine will not affect any appointments that were already scheduled, the City of Manassas said on Tuesday morning. The decision to switch vaccines followed guidance from the CDC and FDA.

"We ask today’s participants to please be patient as the nurses and staff make this switch," Communications Manager Patty Prince said in the news release. This week's clinic will now provide the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine for free to eligible people who register in advance.

In a tweet, the Prince William Health District noted that residents will not be required to show photo ID or an insurance card. However, participants will be encouraged to present their identification.

The appointments for vaccinations at Metz Middle School are scheduled by Walgreens. The company is currently working with local and state governments across the country to address vaccine inequity.

Walgreens operates a Vaccine Equity Initiative, which intends to increase access to vaccinations, address vaccine hesitancy, and create partnerships to help communities, according to a news release. Carlos Cubia is the senior vice president and chief global diversity officer of the Walgreens Boots Alliance.

"Walgreens understands more needs to be done to reduce health disparities and ensure equitable access to COVID vaccines," Cubia said in a news release. "This initiative, combined with our community presence, allows us to create tailored solutions that can help to improve the health of communities."

Residents who are not able to attend this week's clinic at Metz Middle School should register for the coronavirus vaccine on the state's website. The Prince William Health District pulls from the state's list to schedule vaccine appointments.
