Dangerous Heat Set to Return This Week: Virginia Weather Forecast

This break in the high temperatures is about to move out of the area, and will be replaced by 100-degree heat and storm threats, according to the latest forecast.

The heat index, or "feels like" temperature, will climb to the upper 90s by Wednesday and is expected to hit 100 degrees Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Areas east of Interstate 95 and along the interstate may see these temperatures reach the low 100s.

The heat index will stay in the high 90s into the weekend, according to forecasters.

There also will be a chance for thunderstorms daily this week, with the best chance for storms at the end of the forecast, on Sunday and Monday.

Tuesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Southeast wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: A slight chance of showers before 8am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. South wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Chance of precipitation is 50%
