UPDATE: Dog Shot Outside of VRE Station Undergoes Surgery

The dog who was shot outside of the Manassas Park VRE underwent surgery to remove a bullet from his jaw. Police are looking for the shooter.

MANASSAS PARK, VA — A dog was shot outside of the Manassas Park VRE station on Monday morning, according to police.

The dog was taken to the MedVet animal hospital in Manassas after the shooting. The dog underwent a successful surgery to remove a bullet from his jaw, according to an update from the Manassas Park Police Department.

The dog also received multiple stitches from an entry and exit wound to his shoulder. One of his hind legs will be amputated due to severe damage from a gunshot wound, authorities said.

The police department is still looking to identify the dog's owner and whoever shot the dog. Several photos of the dog are available on the police department's Facebook page, or on MedVet's Facebook page.

Witnesses reported hearing six total gunshots outside of the VRE station on Monday morning. After the dog was shot, he followed the person back to a black SUV, police said. The SUV fled the area, and the dog was left behind.

The police department said they are accepting donations towards the dog's veterinary bills at their headquarters. The headquarters is located at 329 Manassas Drive, Manassas Park VA 20111
