MANASSAS, VA — Manassas City Councilwoman Theresa Coates Ellis is encouraging residents to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by visiting the city's many Hispanic-owned businesses. With a population of about 38 percent Hispanic residents, Manassas is home to many culturally diverse businesses and restaurants.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 each year and recognizes the contributions and influences of Hispanics to the history, culture and achievements of the United States.

Ellis, who is running for mayor of Manassas, noted that the Latino community in the Manassas area has been hit extremely hard by the coronavirus crisis, including the area's Hispanic-owned businesses. She noted that she has lobbied for business grants and rent relief since the pandemic hit Manassas, disproportionately affecting the Latino community.
