Manassas School Lockdown: Police Say No Threat Found

Manassas police detectives interviewed an individual after reports of a gunman in the area triggered a lockdown Tuesday at city schools.

MANASSAS, VA — Public schools in Manassas went on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after emergency dispatchers received a report of a man with a gun at a school. On Thursday, the city police announced that detectives had tracked down an individual in connection with the case and determined there was no threat to the schools.

The incident began at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, when the police received a call from the Prince William County Police Emergency Communications Center. It reported that an unknown male said he had a gun and was experiencing a mental health crisis near a Manassas school.

The phone call was disconnected before police could get more information from the caller.

The Manassas City Public Schools immediately locked down all schools. The police searched every building, but no officers, students or staff saw anyone with a gun, authorities said.

On Thursday, the Manassas City Police Department said that detectives had identified and interviewed an individual in connection with the case, "and have determined there is no longer a threat to school safety related to this incident."
