MANASSAS, VA — A mass coronavirus vaccination clinic will operate at the Manassas Park Community Center on Friday, March 12, starting at 8 a.m. The clinic will administer the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine to essential workers in Phase 1b.

There will be no appointments for Friday's mass vaccination clinic, according to the Prince William Health District. Vaccinations will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis for residents of Prince William County, the city of Manassas, and the city of Manassas Park.

Friday's clinic is designed for essential workers who fall in Phase 1b of the state's vaccine rollout program. This includes people who work in food and agriculture, construction workers, and grocery store workers.

Participants should line up outside of the community center when they arrive. People in line will receive a number and can enter the facility when their number is called. Lighted roadside signs outside of the clinic will inform people what numbers are currently being served, the health district said.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which will be provided at Friday's mass vaccination clinic, is the newest available vaccine. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine only requires one shot, instead of the two necessary for the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

The single dose can be beneficial for walk-in locations, or where scheduling a second shot would be difficult, the health district said. Normally, the state requires people to register for a state-wide waitlist to get the vaccine.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is highly effective in preventing hospitalization and death due to COVID-19, according to the health district.

The health district noted that even with the single-shot vaccine, protection does not start until about two weeks after receiving the dose. So, residents should still wear their masks, wash their hands, and practice social distancing.
