'National Night Out' Aug. 1 In Manassas, Prince William County
Here's the perfect excuse to throw a mid-summer block party: "National Night Out," held in conjunction with Prince William County Police.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — National Night Out, ostensibly a manufactured opportunity for neighborhood residents to mingle with one another as well as local cops, can be so much more — especially if you plan ahead. In other words, it doesn't have to be perfunctory exercise where you might go outside for a few minutes, exchange pleasantries with whomever and then retreat back inside to the air conditioning.
It's a prime time — excuse? — to have a mid-summer block party. Perfect for foodies, kids and perhaps folks seeking little more than sharing an adult beverage or three with you neighbors. Prince William County Police will celebrate the 34th National Night Out affair Tuesday, Aug. 1 throughout the area.

And inasmuch that safety and security are perhaps the most preferred characteristics of a neighborhood, meeting new people and sharing concerns or thoughts about any number of topics can be quite beneficial. Prince William County Police describe the evening as something that "creates healthy neighborhoods block by block to help neighbors know one another, to celebrate community and to take steps to make neighborhoods safer for all residents."
Organizers say areas with Neighborhood Watch programs will host motorcade stops and invite police officers and other law enforcement personnel for refreshments.
