Northern Virginia Weather: Cold Work Week Ahead

STERLING, VA—Now that Sunday's dreary precipitation has moved on, folks in the Northern Virginia area will see a work week with lots of sunshine but also with temperatures far colder than the norm for this time of the year. That's the word from the National Weather Service and other area forecasting outlets.

Monday offers strong winds with high just a smidgen above freezing and lows dipping below 20 in some areas. After that, per the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "We've reached the peak of this early-March cold snap by Wednesday. Many spots may struggle to reach freezing, with highs only in the upper 20s to low 30s."

Not until the weekend, though, will our evenings be warmer than freezing. So there you go. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service's area bureau in Sterling:

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Northwest wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
