Northern Virginia Weather: Hazardous Conditions
A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for Northern Virginia by the National Weather Service, but Sunday night won't define the week.
STERLING, VA—Following expected drenching showers Sunday night that have prompted the National Weather Service to issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook, Northern Virginia's forecast for the coming week calls for a likely soggy Monday followed by gradual improvement day to day.
First is Sunday night's rain, and as the Washington Post's Capital Gang points out: "It’s likely heavy at times, culminating in a potentially intense pre-dawn band of thunderstorms with strong wind gusts possible." But the rest of the week offers chances of sunshine each day and nightly temperatures that also will be warming up as the week progresses.

Sunday Night: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 8pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Patchy fog. Temperature rising to around 65 by 4am. Breezy, with an east wind 15 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
Monday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then showers likely. High near 55. West wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. West wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 54. West wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
