Northern Virginia Weather: Week Starts at 9 Degrees, Climbs Toward 60 Degrees

Temperatures are planning a big shift, but we'll have a few more days below freezing, according to the National Weather Service.

STERLING, VA — The dangerous cold temperatures will continue through Monday, but we'll start warming up soon, and reach nearly 60 degrees by the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperature will only be 9 degrees Monday morning. We'll warm to the 20s Monday and temperatures will climb higher Tuesday, but the wind chill will keep the "feels like" temperature below freezing until late Tuesday night. The best chance for rain will be Tuesday night.

The temperatures climb fast on Wednesday, reaching 52 degrees in the afternoon, and driving close to 60 degrees by Thursday.

For next weekend, it looks like the temperatures will return to normal levels in the mid-40s, with overnight lows near freezing.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 9. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 28. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

Monday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 20. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

Tuesday: A slight chance of rain after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 40. South wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday Night: Rain likely, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 38. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Wednesday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56.

Saturday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
