Peet’s coffee and Tea closed its Bristow and Alexandria locations Monday as the company announced plans to shift its focus to better performing locations in the greater Washington, D.C. area.
“This is not an easy decision, but it’s important that we responsibly manage our costs and begin 2015 with a stronger focus on our top-performing markets, including Chicago, D.C., Boston and California,” Peet’s said in a statement.
The California-based company also announced Monday plans to close all its remaining stores in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The company’s Bristow location opened over the summer where a Caribou Coffee previously operated. Peet’s said it plans to shut down its Bristow and Alexandria stores because they did not “perform to our expectations,” the company said in a statement.
Employees who are in good standing may have the option to transfer to another Peet’s location in the greater D.C. area, The Baltimore Business Journal reports. Employees who choose not to transfer will receive at least six weeks’ pay.
