American Disposal Services Awards Two 2,500 Dollar Scholarships for Environmental Stewardship

MANASSAS, VA, July 1, 2014 – American Disposal Services is proud to announce the two recipients of their Annual American Disposal Services Inc. Scholarship. Applications were distributed to all public high schools in Loudoun and Fairfax Counties. One winner was chosen from each county.

Winners Robert Young and Allison Arpajian each received a $2,500 dollar award from American Disposal Services to apply to their college or university of choice. Applicants were only considered if they were an active member of an environmentally-focused group or committee through their school or community and had completed an environmental science course as part of their studies. A 500 word essay explaining how they helped to protect or promote the preservation of the environment was also required.

Young, the Fairfax County recipient, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and has been accepted to Stanford University, where he plans to study computer science.

Arpajian, the Loudoun County recipient, graduated from Freedom High School and has been accepted to James Madison University, where she plans to study Pediatric Nursing.

“Each year the caliber of students who apply for the annual ADS scholarship impresses us, and 2014 is no exception.” Anna Wilkinson, American Disposal Services’ Public Relations Director said. “Both recipients this year, Allison and Robert, have exceeded American Disposal’s expectations when we created this scholarship two years ago. They have very bright futures ahead of them and we feel safe that the environment will be in good hands as they progress with their studies and stewardship.”
