Tractor-Trailer Crash Snarls I-66 Traffic

The accident closed two westbound lanes during Thursday morning's rush hour, say media reports.

HAYMARKET, VA — An overturned tractor-trailer closed down the westbound lanes of Interstate 66 for two hours Thursday morning, according to media reports. Traffic was backed up for several miles and drivers were diverted to Route 15 and Route 55.

The accident occurred at about 6 a.m. at the 37.7 mile marker, near the Fauquier County line, and Prince William County firefighters went to the scene to handle a hazardous materials spill.

The firefighters contained what they termed a "minor product spill" from the tractor trailer, and the westbound lanes of I-66 were reopened at about 8 a.m.
