Warning Period Begins For New Red Light Camera In Manassas
A 30-day warning period begins on Thursday for a new red light camera at Grant Avenue and Center Street in Manassas.

MANASSAS, VA ? A new red light camera is now operating at Grant Avenue and Center Street in Manassas, the police department said on Thursday.
For 30 days, the camera will operate a warning period. After the warning period, any red light violations at the intersection will be punishable by a $50 citation.
The Manassas City Police Department noted that the citation will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. The citation will not result in any demerits on the driver's license and will not be used to increase insurance rates.

Authorities noted that all violations captured by the cameras will be reviewed by a city police officer.
"The goal of photo red light enforcement is to improve roadway safety by increasing driver awareness and compliance," the Manassas City Police Department. "Roadway safety studies show photo red light enforcement can reduce violations by up to 40%."

Police officials credited existing red light cameras with a 35 percent decrease in crashes from 2021 to 2022.
Red light cameras are already active at three intersections on Liberia Avenue: at Centreville Road, at Euclid Avenue, and at Signal Hill Road.
