MANASSAS, VA — While New Year's Day is often a day to recover from the previous night's festivities, if you do plan to head out, be aware the holiday may affect the hours of area government offices, schools, public transportation and more.

Manassas Government Offices: All county offices and facilities will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed New Year's Day.
Manassas City Public Schools: Students are on winter break Dec. 23-Jan 3. All offices are closed.

Manassas Police Department: Administrative offices will be closed Jan. 1. Manassas City police officers and dispatchers will be on duty 24/7 on these days. See Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center visiting hours.
OmniRide: No OmniRide service on Jan. 1.
VRE: Closed Jan. 1. Planned "S" schedule on Dec. 31.
Parking: Parking restrictions in downtown Manassas will be enforced Jan. 1. Although there is no charge for street parking in downtown Manassas, all public parking is in timed areas.
Prince William County Public Libraries: Libraries will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 31 and remain closed Jan. 1.
Trash & Recycling: There will be no trash or recycling collection on Jan. 1. Wednesday trash will be collected on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Movie Theaters: Most area movie theaters will be open New Year's Day. We would encourage calling your theater of choice to confirm hours.
Grocery Stores: Area grocery stores hours are as follows —
- Safeway, 12821 Braemar Village Pz, Bristow: 5 a.m.-midnight on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
- Giant Food, 8025 Sudley Rd.: 6 a.m.-9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 6 a.m. to midnight on Jan. 1.
- Food Lion, 9121 Centerville Rd.: 7 a.m.-11 p.m. on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
- Wegmans, 8297 Stonewall Shops Sq., Gainesville: Closing at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and opening at 6 a.m. on Jan. 1.
- Harris Teeter: Open regular hours.
- ALDI: Stores will be open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will be closed Jan. 1.
- Lidl: Stores will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and reopen at 8 a.m. on Jan. 2.
