3. Virginia Beach Residents Urged to Prevent Frozen Pipe Costs (hamptonroadsmessenger.com) — Virginia Beach Public Utilities is warning homeowners to protect indoor pipes now to avoid expensive damage as temperatures drop. The city recommends letting faucets drip, keeping thermostats steady, opening cabinet doors, and shutting off and draining water systems before trips. Residents are urged to know their private shut-off valve location and call Public Utilities or 311 if a pipe bursts.
   

4. Law to change geriatric release proposed (wavy.com) — A Virginia Beach family’s fight to keep a convicted killer behind bars is driving a proposed change to Virginia’s geriatric release law. Inspired by “Lexie’s Law,” Del. Ferrell Tata is drafting a bill to bar violent offenders, including murderers and rapists, from qualifying for age-based release for future convictions, aiming to spare families repeated parole battles.
   

5.
