9-Year-Old Grazed By Bullet In Woodbridge: Police

A 9-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet after two groups of people exchanged gunfire outside of an apartment complex in Woodbridge.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 9-year-old girl suffered minor injuries after she was grazed by a bullet on Thursday evening, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities said the girl was inside a home when she was struck.

Authorities originally responded to the 2700 block of Yosocomico Lane in Woodbridge at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 17 to investigate a report of gunfire. Residents in the area told police that they heard gunshots before two groups of people left the area on foot and in cars, according to the police report.

During their investigation, officers determined that there were two groups of people. One group was near a shed on George Page Place, while the other was at a playground on Yosocomico Lane, police said.

Authorities said that the two groups exchanged gunfire. Officers on the scene found "several" cartridge casings near the shed and the playground, the police report noted.

As officers were investigating the area, they learned that a 9-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet. Rescue personnel were called, and the girl was treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to the police department.

During their investigation, officers also found a tree and an unoccupied car that were struck by gunfire. No additional injuries were reported.

Witnesses reported seeing a suspect walk away from the area on foot while carrying a firearm. The suspect is described as a Black male who is about five feet, nine inches tall and weigh about 175 pounds. He was wearing a white muscle-style shirt, and dark jeans.
