Chicken and Fowl Amendment Back on the Table
BOCS will meet this afternoon at 2 p.m. since the evening session is optional.

Today at 2 p.m. the Board of County Supervisors will meet for a regular afternoon scheduled meeting; the evening session will not be held. Atop the board's docket for this afternoon are fund appropriations to serve as donations for local organizations and a work session for the chicken and fowl zoning amendment.
For months the "chicken amendment" has been mulled over through the Prince William County planning commission and the board without resolution. Last week, the board was slated to voted on the "chicken amendment" but deferred the vote until after today's work session.
Pending the results of today's work session with county staffer Nick Evers, who has been with this zoning amendment for its duration, the amendment will go to the board for a vote at a public hearing on Oct. 5.

As the zoning amendment stands from the Planning Commission, the gist of the amendment sits in a few language changes. Mainly, the changes that the Planning Commission wrote would allow for lots under one acre to have up to ten chickens on agricultural or semi-rural land.
However, the discrepancy remains on the county staff's behalf that the minimum lot size for chickens and other fowl should be two acres.
