How to keep cool at the end of summer

With temperatures in the area reaching record highs this summer, Woodbridge residents are searching for places to cool off.

Of course, there's always the AMC Theatres in Potomac Mills Mall to catch a movie as early as 9 a.m. in some cases.

But when the neighborhood pools are crowded -- and it seems like there is no place to cool down -- where do you go?

The Prince William County Government suggests visiting some of their cooling centers when temperatures reach above 95 degrees.

According to a press release issued by the County Government, the Department of Social Services maintains a Drop In Center for the homeless at 14730 Potomac Mills Road.

The center is a place for people to cool off and take a load off before starting back out in the stifling heat.

Other designated cooling centers include all county libraries – many of which have summer activities throughout the tail end of the summer to entertain the little ones.

The Chinn Park Regional Library provides weekly events for children and young adults during the summer. From events like Family Craft Night and Friday Flicks, the whole family can get out of the heat and enjoy time together.

Other organizations, such as the Department of Social Services, did their best to help ease the heat with a  Cooling Assistance Program through Aug. 16 which helped lower income families purchase or repair cooling equipment.
