Flooding Threat With Wednesday Afternoon Storms: Virginia Weather Forecast
A flash flood watch has been issued for the region until 3 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

STERLING, VA — Storms expected Wednesday afternoon and evening may include heavy rains with the potential for flooding, according to forecasters.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 3 a.m. Thursday. A watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
Thunderstorms will increase in the late afternoon and evening hours, with the potential for rainfall rates of 1-to-2 inches per hour, according to the weather service.

"Locally excessive rainfall could cause rapid flooding of small streams, as well as low-lying and urban areas," according to the watch statement.
Residents should monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action if a flash flood warning is issued.
