Forecasters Eyeing Possible Snow/Ice Mix for Northern Virginia

Forecasters say Northern Virginia could see a mix of ice, snow and rain Sunday through Tuesday.

The Northern Virginia area could experience a smorgasbord of weather this week: From balmy temps and rain later this week, and then possibly a wintry mix starting Sunday, forecasters say.

Temperatures are expected to reach into the 60s Thursday and Friday with about a 60 percent chance of rain from Thursday night into Friday night.

The temperatures then take a plunge over the weekend, according to forecasters.

The Capital Weather Gang forecasts possible snow, ice and/or rain Sunday into Monday:

"The season’s first shot for accumulating frozen precipitation is appearing in long-range model simulations. As arctic air seeps into the region this coming weekend, a wave of low pressure will approach from the southwest. This combination means we have a chance of snow, ice, and/or rain next Sunday into Monday."

Here's what other forecasters are saying:

The Weather Channel forecasts a 30 percent chance of a "wintry mix" Sunday, a 30 percent chance of a "freezing drizzle" Monday and a 60 percent of "snow showers" Tuesday.

The National Weather Service predicts a 30 percent (increasing to 50 percent for Sunday night) chance of rain and snow Sunday, changing to a 40 percent chance for rain on Monday.
