Giving Back to the Community

Patch volunteers with local organizations.

Woodbridge and Prince William County residents may have noticed a different type of bell ringers this holiday season at ABC stores in our area.

In the past few weekends it was not the Salvation Army but the Literacy Volunteers of America – Prince William.

We at Patch.com are deeply rooted in volunteerism. As a part of our organization we donate five percent of our advertising space to charitable organizations as well as five days throughout the year to volunteer organizations.

In the past, I have volunteered with the Prince William SPCA and the Prince William Conservation Alliance but this time around I spent part of the day ringing bell for donations for a great local organization, the Literacy Volunteers of America – Prince William.

Although the bell ringing drive is finished, the community can still donate online through PayPal on this link.

Founded in 1991 by a local librarian, the organization's mission is to teach adults to read. People in the community can donate funds to the organization as well as time to train as tutors and help adults with low-literacy skills.

To sign up for tutor training or for more information about this organization, call the office at 703-670-5702 or email them at lvapw@aol.com
