Here's the timeline as cold air and high winds deliver a dangerous freeze through Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

It looks like the holiday weekend will have a burst of snow Friday night and the potential for a few inches on Monday.

But the big story for Saturday and Sunday will be dangerously cold temperatures as cold air and high winds settle in, according to the National Weather Service.

The wind chill, or “feels like” temperature, will stay in the single digits all day Saturday and drop below freezing Sunday — as much as 7 below in parts of the region.

A wind advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday for most of the region, with wind gusts possibly reaching up to 50 mph.

  • Friday, 6 p.m.: 17 degrees
  • 9 p.m.: 18 degrees
  • midnight: 12 degrees
  • 3 a.m.: 5 degrees
  • 6 a.m.: 0 degrees
  • 9 a.m.: 2 degrees
  • noon: 4 degrees
  • 3 p.m.: 3 degrees
  • 6 p.m.: 2 degrees
  • 9 p.m.: -1 degrees

Once we’re on the other end of the deep freeze, temperatures are expected to warm up fast. The wind chill will reach into the teens Sunday, move up to the 20s Monday and will be higher than 40 degrees by Tuesday.
