Humane Society Of Northern Virginia Begins Operating

Four-legged friends are getting a fresh start.

The Humane Society of Northern Virginia (HSNV) is now operating.

It’s powered by the Advocates For Abused and Abandoned Pets (A3P), a foster-based rescue that was established in 2017.

“Our mission is to help homeless pets find long lasting, forever homes,” HSNV Director Sherry Turner explained.

Located at 17983 Dumfries Shopping Plaza in Dumfries, the non-profit is open by appointment. Visitors are encouraged to wear a mask.

In addition to adoptions, it offers dog training and advice over the phone. The humane society also helps with trapping and plans to expand its projects, such as building dog houses.

Volunteers with a variety of skills, including social media and sewing, are actively sought.

“If anybody’s interested, if anybody has passion or compassion for pets and they want to help out – regardless of how much time they have to offer – we’d love for them to reach out to us and volunteer, and get to know us,” Turner added.

HSNV is hosting its first event, Pets and Vettes, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 19.

Attendees will discover corvettes on displays and local rescues at the program, which is taking place at the Dumfries Shopping Plaza.

“It’s going to have adorable, adoptable pets and really cool corvettes,” Volunteer Polly Becker said. “So, please come and join us.”
