Intoxicated Burglary Suspect Arrested near The Car Store in Dumfries

An Alexandria man was arrested after reportedly breaking into The Car Store on Jefferson Davis Hwy in Dumfries early Sunday morning.

Prince William County Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress Sunday around 4:19 a.m. at The Car Store on Jefferson Davis Highway in Dumfries.

The store manager told police he was sleeping inside the business and woke to an unknown man rummaging through the front desk area. The manager confronted the suspect who then left on foot. No property was reported missing.

Responding officers located the suspect in the Jefferson Davis Highway and Dumfries Road area where he was identified as the accused and detained without incident. Officers later determined the man was under the influence of alcohol. The accused was arrested following the investigation.

Oscar Oswaldo Melendez, 25, of Alexandria, was charged with burglary and public intoxication. He is being held on a $5,000 bond until his Dec. 4 court date.
