After receiving a doctorate in clinical psychology from LSU, Dr. Smalls recently received a master's degree in art therapy from the Art Institute of Chicago. Through the use of paint, collage, papercuts and other media, she emphasizes self-care and considers it central to her practice and the pieces she creates. Dr. Smalls' work in various mediums has been exhibited at the School of Art - Institute of Chicago, Harlem Fine Arts Show, Howard University, Sojourner Family Peace Center and many other public venues and private collections across the country.
For a fourth year, PWCAC DST has partnered with the Center for the Arts and hosted a Black History Month reception at the Center to celebrate the contributions that African-Americans make to the arts. Reception attendees will enjoy live music, refreshments and door prizes, in addition to the opportunity to enjoy the artwork and meet the artist.
