Labor Day 2019: What's Open, What's Closed In Woodbridge

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Labor Day represents one of the busier weekends of the summer, if not the entire year. It's one final chance for tourists to fill up the coffers, from the Outer Banks in North Carolina to Ocean City in Maryland. But for city and county governments, schools, and some businesses, Labor Day is a chance to hit the pause button.

Here are the openings and closings to know for Labor Day weekend in Woodbridge.

Prince William County Offices: All county offices will be closed Sept. 2.

County Courts: All Prince William County courts will be closed Sept. 2.

State Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Sept. 2.

Post Offices: Closed on Sept. 2.

Metrorail: On Sept. 2, the Metro system will be open 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and operate on a Sunday schedule. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.

The six Yellow and Blue Line Metro stations south of Reagan National Airport are closed and are scheduled to reopen on Monday, Sept. 9. Until then, free shuttle buses are serving the closed stations. For more information, visit www.wmata.com/service/rail/PlatformProject.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Sept. 2. See bus timetables.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on Sept. 2. For more information, visit www.vre.org.

Libraries: All Prince William County Public Libraries are closed Saturday, Aug. 31, through Monday, Sept. 2. Potomac and Haymarket Gainesville Community Libraries will not be accepting passports during this time.

Outdoor Pools: On Labor Day, Hammill Mill Pool in Woodbridge will be open 12-6 p.m. and Veterans Park Pool & Waterslide is open 2-6 p.m.

Waterparks: SplashDown and Waterworks Waterparks are open 12-6 p.m. on Labor Day.

Historic Sites and Museums: Manassas National Battlefield Park is open regular hours Sept. 2. Many county historic sites including the Rippon Lodge Historic Site in Woodbridge are also open for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Landfill/Recycling: The County Landfill in Manassas will open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Labor Day, as will the Balls Ford Road Compost Facility, which will be open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents may also take recycling to several drop-off trailers throughout the county.

Trash Collection: Check with your local provider about trash collection.

Grocery Stores: Wegman's and Safeway in Woodbridge will be open 6 a.m. to midnight Sept. 2. Wegman's pharmacy will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Safeway's pharmacy will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Price Rite will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Food Lion will be closed Sept. 2.
