New Sidewalk Grant to Help Students Walk Safely Along Antietam Road

Occoquan District Supervisor Michael May has made sidewalks a priority, especially near Old Bridge Road.

Thanks to a grant for a new sidewalk and crosswalk, more students will soon be able to walk safely along Antietam Road between Woodfern Court and Old Bridge Road.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board recently voted to approve a $300,000 county Safe Routes to School grant for new sidewalk along one side of Antietam Road.

"A sidewalk along this section of Antietam Road has long been a community priority," Occoquan District Supervisor Michael May said in a statement. "Our community partners agree that this sidewalk is a great step toward improving the safety of our children when walking and biking to and from school, while also enhancing pedestrian access throughout the community."

May has made new sidewalks a priority in the Occoquan District, most recently focusing on Old Bridge Road.

The county is now just waiting for the final grant agreement and plans from the Virginia Department of Transportation. Sidewalk construction dates to be announced.
