Prince William Humane Society Awards $20K In Grants

Animal organizations across the state are helping pets stay out of shelters.

Several received funding to support their efforts.

The Prince William Humane Society (PWHS) awarded $20,350 in grants to several Affiliate Partners of the Homeless Animals Support Network (HASN), according to a release from PWHS.

“We are delighted that each of the Affiliate Partners that applied was awarded a grant for their program and we hope to continue helping small rescue organizations through this program”, Prince William Humane Society President Lori Leary said in a release. “Each of these programs will make a difference in their community and help to reduce pet homelessness and euthanasia.”

Here are the grant recipients:

• Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue: Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue was awarded with a grant for a trainer.
• Squishy Face Crew: Squishy Face Crew in Fredericksburg received funds for a program that will offer consultation and a training session for those adopting dogs.
• Friends of Russell County Animals: Friends of Russell County Animals is getting support for three programs – one that provides free spay and neuter, one that provides more access to urgent and preventative veterinary care, and another that focuses on outreach for pet retention.
• Furever Friends Lodge: Furever Friends Lodge in Rockbridge County gives pet food to those who are less fortunate. In addition to the grant, they are gaining microchips.
• Smyth Animal Rescue & Resource Center: Smyth Animal Rescue & Resource Center in Smyth County is using the funds to help low-income owners get pet food, flea and tick medication, and other needed items.
• Animal Resources of Tidewater (ART): ART received a grant to create a Safety Net Foster Program in Norfolk.
