Prince William School Year to Begin Before Labor Day 2015
School will begin a full week before Labor Day in 2015, according to a new calendar plan adopted by the Prince William County School Board.

Prince William County Public Schools board members voted unanimously Wednesday to use a snow-day-related waiver from Virginia’s opening day restrictions to allow an early start to the 2015-16 school year.
The decision allows for an Aug. 31, 2015 start date, one day earlier than this year, and an end date on Friday, June 17, 2016. The new calendar also allows for a Columbus Day holiday for students as well as days off on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the Monday before Easter and a full two-week winter break.
The Board considered delaying the vote until January to give residents more time to digest the changes. Ultimately, the Board decided benefits such as the longer winter break, more instructional days prior to testing and the earlier summer closing date merited the immediate decision.
