FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Every dog is unique in their own way. Some dogs, like Maxie, are actually world-class athletes.

Maxie is a 5-year-old dog who is available for adoption now at the Fredericksburg SPCA. She's also one of the most passionate and capable four-legged swimmers around.

"Middle-aged Maxie is, first and foremost, a very good girl," the Fredericksburg SPCA said. "She is an athlete who is intelligent, quirky, and devoted to her leader."

Despite her age, Maxie is still an athlete in every sense of the word. She isn't content to just laze about on the couch; she's ready for adventure, according to the SPCA.

"She enjoys numerous walkies, many outdoor activities, but her favorite, by far, is swimming," the SPCA said. "She is athletic enough to doggie paddle for 45 minutes without stopping, yet smart enough to know when you're about to tell her it's time to go. "

Maxie's foster family described her joy in the water as contagious.

"Maxie can entertain herself and bystanders alike with her favorite game, 'smack the water and bite it,' which she plays with great delight when she's not retrieving her frisbee," the SPCA said.

Maxie's love for swimming is only matched by her love of car rides. Taking on the open roads is this lady's idea of a good time, according to the SPCA.

"She is happy to tag along on errands and protect your hard-earned possessions," the SPCA said.

Maxie is one of the shelter's longest-tenured pups. Though she enjoys being able to stay active with her foster family, Maxie would be even happier to find a forever home of her own.

"Maxie is looking for a kind human leader, someone who understands dogs and possesses a thirst for adventure that matches her own," the SPCA said. "She would love to meet you and show off all she is."

Anyone interested in meeting Maxie can set up an appointment by emailing matchmakers@fredspca.org. More information about Maxie and other dogs up for adoption can be found on the SPCA's website.
