PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Safeway is hiring full-time and part-time employees to work in its stores, serve as delivery drivers and work in its distribution center across the Washington, D.C. area, including in Prince William County. The grocery chain, like other essential retail stores, is trying to balance the hours of its existing employees to keep them safe from the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, but also meet the sustained demand from customers.

The grocery store chain said there are about 1,000 immediate openings at Safeway stores in its Eastern Division, which includes Virginia, Maryland, D.C. and Delaware. Available jobs include positions in deli, meat, bakery, produce, customer service, fuel stations, drive up & go, delivery, and cashier.

“Grocery stores are the cornerstone of the community and are deemed an essential service. If your job has been impacted by COVID-19, we are offering permanent or temporary employment that can help bridge the gap,” Tom Lofland, Safeway Eastern Division president, said Wednesday in a statement.
