Social and racial injustice are major components of our day to day lives. But we hardly notice it
because of the pandemic. A lot of people have heard of the Black Lives Matter Movement, but
haven’t done much about it. Actually, it’s all over social media. It’s on YouTube, TikTok, and
Twitter. And I’m just naming a few of the most popular apps. People of our country are suffering
from more than just the coronavirus; they are suffering and even dying because some people
think they are better than them for having different skin color. Why should race matter? In the
end, we are all human. We all have hearts that keep us alive with each beat.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned in his farewell
address: “O People, your Lord is One, you are the progeny of the same father (who was created
from dust). Hence it is not permissible for you to make any discrimination between high and low.
Neither an Arab has superiority over a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab over an Arab. A white person
is not superior to a black person, nor a black is superior to a white. The most honorable among
you in the sight of God is the one who is the most righteous.”
One of the victims of racial injustice was George Floyd. A policeman put his knee to his neck
during his arrest in Minnesota for giving counterfeit money to a store clerk. He kept saying how
he couldn’t breathe, but the officer kept his knee there, which resulted in Mr. Floyd’s death. He
died from the pressure on his neck not allowing blood to flow to his brain, and the pressure on
his back which restricted him from breathing. That was very sad.
Why is everyone so violent? We don’t need to do these things! They are only going to create
more chaos! Everyone has heard of Martin Luther King Jr. at some point. The man with the
famous ‘I have a Dream’ speech. He wanted the future generations to not live in fear of who
they were compared to other people. How would he react to our world today?
My closest friend is an African American and I couldn’t ask for a better friend. She’s the one I
rely on the most in my life and the person I can easily trust with anything. Should I have to end
my friendship with her because she is different from me? It’s what is on the inside that counts,
not the outside. We shouldn’t care about skin, when we can care about personality. It’s who we
are that we should focus on. Not what others think we are. Try to make a difference, for ALL
humanity and let’s work for supreme justice.
