Thanksgiving 2019: What's Open, Closed In Woodbridge

Train routes, schools and government offices may be impacted by the 2019 Thanksgiving holiday in and around Woodbridge.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — While closures are a given for most services on Thanksgiving, Woodbridge residents should also be aware of closures on surrounding days like Black Friday. Government offices, libraries and other services will be closed for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, while services like the post office will operate on Black Friday.

Here are the openings and closings to know on and around Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving) and Friday, Nov. 29 (Black Friday).

Prince William County Offices: All county offices will be closed Nov. 28-29.

Prince William County Schools: There will be no school for students Nov. 27-29.

Post offices and mail: Closed Thanksgiving Day. No mail will be delivered.

County Courts: All Prince William County courts and court offices will close at 12 p.m. Nov. 27 and remain closed through Nov. 29.

State Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Nov. 28.

Restaurants Open For Thanksgiving 2019 In Woodbridge Area

Metrorail: On Nov. 28, the Metro system will be open 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and operate on a Sunday schedule. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Nov. 28. See bus timetables.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on Thanksgiving Day. On Black Friday, VRE will operate on an "S" Schedule, meaning only trains with an "S" above the train number on the schedule will operate. For more information, visit www.vre.org.

Libraries: All Prince William County Public Libraries will close at 5 p.m. Nov. 27 and remain closed through the weekend. Branches will reopen Monday, Dec. 2. Potomac and Haymarket Gainesville Community Libraries will not be accepting passports during this time.

Historic Sites and Museums: The Henry Hill Visitor Center at Manassas National Battlefield Park is closed Thanksgiving Day. Many county historic sites including the Rippon Lodge Historic Site in Woodbridge are closed for the season, but other sites are open for self guided walks.

Landfill/Recycling: The County Landfill in Manassas and the Balls Ford Road Compost Facility are closed Thanksgiving Day. Residents may take recycling to several drop-off trailers throughout the county.

Trash Collection: Check with your independent provider about trash collection.

Grocery Stores: Wegman's will close at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, and will reopen at 6 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29. Safeway is open until 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving. All Food Lion stores are open regular hours. Price Rite will be closed Thanksgiving Day.
