Two Dogs Die in Woodbridge House Fire

Five people were displaced and two dogs were killed by a house fire on Chesterfield Drive in Woodbridge Monday night.

A fire in Woodbridge displaced five people and killed two dogs Monday night.

According to the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Firefighters, the fire occurred at 7:45 p.m. in the 14200 block of Chesterfield Drive in Woodbridge.

The fire, which reportedly started after a resident left food on the stove, spread from the kitchen to the entire first floor, WUSA 9 reports. Firefighters arrived at the house to find flames fanning through the front door, which the residents left open while evacuating.

The OWL VFD were able to control the fire within 20 minutes. No one was injured, but two dogs died in the fire. The five who were displaced are being held by the American Red Cross.

It is important to close the door after evacuating during a house fire, the OWL VFD notes, to prevent the flow of air back into the home that could fuel the fire.
