Two New Playgrounds Being Built at Local Parks

Andrew Leitch Park in Dale City and James Long Park in Gainesville will house two new playground structures by the beginning of next year.

Two new playgrounds are currently being installed at two of Prince William County’s busiest regional parks.

Andrew Leitch Park in Dale City will soon house a more than 4,200-square-foot playground featuring multi-level play structures, simulated rock climbing walls, slides, and other playground features. The new play area is adjacent to WaterWorks Waterpark as well as the park’s basketball courts and nature trails. The playground at Leitch Park is scheduled to reopen in mid-December.

The new 3,700-square-foot playground at James Long Park in Gainesville (pictured) will include multiple slides and climbing features. The entire area will be covered by a canopy. Other amenities at Long Park include an equestrian ring, multiple grass and turf sports fields, and the Long Park Neighborhood Library. The playground at Long Park is scheduled to reopen Feb. 1, 2015.

Both play areas will include swing sets and seating. Each features separate play areas specific for children ages 2-5 and 5-12.

“With WaterWorks Waterpark at Leitch Park and numerous sports fields at Long Park, both locations are popular destinations for families,” said Brent Heavner of the County’s Department of Parks and Recreation. “Our patrons expect quality outdoor youth play structures to be part of their parks experience and these upgrades demonstrate our continued commitment to meeting that expectation.”
