During the first few weeks of August, the Woodbridge Senior High School coed golf team could be found traipsing the grounds of Old Hickory Gold Course during tryouts. Now, the team looks to rebuild this year and start anew.
In his third year of coaching, head coach Darin Snoots has seen the team through three consecutive Cardinal District regional competitions but has also lost the backbone of his team.
Last year, the team of nine seniors made a run for the Cardinal District title. This year, Snoots looks to lead his team to the same fate.

"Most of my starting lineup graduated, so we're rebuilding this year," said Snoots. "We have all-new starters and it's a younger team this year. I only have one senior and only two juniors on the team.
Eleven prospective players tried out for the team, over a series of three-day qualifying.

"I think there will be at least three teams vying for the top two spots," said Snoots. "I think we have a competitive enough team to compete with them."
In order to make the final cut, players who were trying out for spots on the team needed to complete 15-hole qualifying rounds each day with the option of throwing out one of the rounds.
"If they have a bad day, they can throw it out," said Snoots. "Everybody has a bad day."
The lowest 30 holes were counted towards tryout considerations. Immediately following tryouts, the team hosted the Serv-Pro Invitational, run by WSHS Athletic Director Karl Kerns, on Aug. 10 at the Twin Lakes Golf Course in Fairfax, VA.
Every day the team does not participate in a invitational competition, they are on the golf course practicing Monday through Thursday.
The Vikings will face off against Gar-Field and Forest Park on Aug. 26 at Old Hickory Golf Course at 1 p.m.
