WOODBRIDGE, VA — The Washington Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman will begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Potomac Nationals on Thursday night.

The first baseman will help kick off a 7-game homestand with the game Thursday against Winston-Salem Dash at 7:05 p.m., according to a statement.

Zimmerman is recovering from a left rib cage strain earlier this month. This season, the 31-year-old Zimmerman has 12 home runs and 38 RBIs through 74 games with Washington, according to the Potomac Nationals release.

"It feels pretty good," Zimmerman told MLB.com. "I think whenever you're coming back from anything, you're always a little cautious at first whether you're 100 percent or not. I think that's the point of getting out there and hitting and proving to yourself that you can kind of let it go and everything's fine."
