Woodbridge High School Musicians Show Talent "Times Infinity"

Student-run record label released Kurtis Goad's CD "Simply You"

Last night, Woodbridge senior Kurtis Goad and several student musicians performed at the student-run Polyphonix Record label CD release concert for Goad's album "Simply You."

A $5 entrance fee bought a ticket into the show and a copy of Goad's album, and a portion of the proceeds will go to To Write Love on Her Arms, a non-profit that is dedicated in supporting individuals struggling with addiction, self-injury, depression and suicide.

Among the students that performed were Kara Hollis, singing her rendition of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," Carl Stover, Cristobal Montano, Jack Wilkins, Jonny Schwenter, Stephanie Williams, Brandon Boling, the emcee of the event and Barbara Ballve.

One of the groups that performed, Stonewalls Men Ryad Chaoui and Hunter Martin dedicated one of their songs to their late classmate, .

Before performing the untitled song, Chaoui addressed the audience."I knew this girl and we were pretty close. Her name is Kirsten, and we miss her so I wrote this song for her."

A solemn silence fell over the auditorium as some attendees shed a tear throughout the emotional tribute as Chaoui sang the lyrics, "the leaves will fall and life will go on and you won't be here with us / as people grow old and goldfish keep swimming we won't forget about you / why'd you have to go and leave so fast / you didn't say goodbye."

After performing his own song "Times Infinity," with friend Ballve, and "Grace (Fly Away)," Goad took a moment to draw the audience's attention to the album artwork, designed by his girlfriend of over two years Kristen Bakelaar.

"Do you like my music?" Goad asked the crowd. "You can thank Kristen for it, she is my inspiration."

In a twist a events and keeping with the theme of all things "love," Goad asked the audience to join him in calling his girlfriend, who lives in Canada, to show his gratitude.

Fortunately, Goad reached Bakelaar and surprised her by having the entire audience scream into his cell phone. To view the "aww" moment, view the video above.

Goad, who literally had "love" written on his forearm, wrapped up the concert with a moving performance of the famed "Lean On Me" song.

"In light of recent events I want to sing this song," said Goad. "Hopefully people will remember that not just one person cares, but that everyone does."

Goad was joined on-stage by his pianist friend, Stephanie Williams and the Woodbrige a cappella choir. Collectively, the performance brought the audience to their feet to sing and clap along.
